Anxiety and OCD

Child Therapy for Anxiety and OCD

In younger children, anxiety and OCD can look a little different. In younger kids, these symptoms can sometimes look like behavioral dysregulation (e.g., tantrums, emotional outbursts, anger, impulsivity, rigidity, etc). They often don’t know why they’re doing certain things or behaving in specific ways, so your psychologist will work together with you and your child to determine the function of their behavior. This allows us to determine what the root cause of problematic behavior is and develop an effective and evidence-based treatment plan. There are a number of common types of OCD in children, which may lead to different behaviors or problems.

At Dig Deep Psychology, we offer evidence-based psychotherapy for anxiety and OCD to help your child reduce symptoms and distress, change anxiety- and fear-based behaviors, and face fears without avoiding them. Often, treatment for anxiety and OCD will involve Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ERP), which helps you and your child systematically tackle their fears and gain control over them, instead of letting them control your child’s life. If your child or adolescent has been struggling with anxiety, fear, panic, or OCD, reach out to us to discuss how our psychologists can help treat your concerns and empower you to reclaim your life from these symptoms.
